When it comes to deciding a career path after finishing your high school, that becomes difficult for most of the students to choose the right career. And most of them later find out that they have chosen the wrong career, and think we are screwed!

What if they have asked for help from experienced professionals who are actually capable of explaining & pointing them to the right direction? Am I saying that students do not ask? – NO. They do, for sure. But the thing is “who are you asking for advice?” matters. Now I would argue that, asking for help from your parent or teachers isn’t enough if they are not capable of understanding you & your interests. (That’s happened with many – got wrong advice; regret for the rest of their lives).

Students normally follow the footsteps of their parents or someone in their family who has a good job or respected most. But remember this, what works for others may not work for you because everyone is different.

We all have different mindset, science has proved that no human in this world is similar to any other human, different finger-prints and different retinas so are the feelings. If I like apples, you may not like apples and love oranges. So, when it comes to choose a career path, you really should listen to your instincts. Take other people’s opinions, but make your own decision based on the data you collect.

Here are five major steps you can follow

1. Know yourself

Sit back, relax and start writing down your interests.

  • What are your strengths and weakness?
  • What do you expect out of your career?
  • Do you want independence in your field?
  • What are your work values?
  • Do you want to work with computer/technology?
  • Do you want to interact with people on the job?
  • Are there any leadership opportunities in your field of interest?
  • Do you want to work with your hands?
  • What work environment do you see yourself enjoying?

2. Seek guidance and direction

Find out the most successful and experienced people in your network, could be someone from your family or friends. But you need to know that the person you are gonna talk knows about the industry and is capable of understanding your interests.

3. Do your homework

After getting information about the market and talking to professionals, it’s time to connect the dots, put yourself in the situations as you have chosen a career and see how it feels.

4. Listen to your instincts

At the end of the day, you should always listen to your instincts. Choose what you think is best for you and leave everything behind.

5. Never Give Up!

When you have it, next thing is to act. Make your goals and start struggling to achieve them. And remember this; You Never Give Up! No matter what or how many times you fail, you do not stop, keep going keep moving. Because every time you fail, you come back bigger better and stronger…
