In psychology, the term self-esteem is used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value.

  • Self-esteem also translated as personality trait. Which means it tends to be stable and enduring.
  • Self-esteem involves different types of believes about self. Such as the appraisal of one’s own appearance, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors.

Build self confidence

Listen to your instincts

If you want to build self-esteem and self confidence, then you gotta listen to your instincts. Do not believe what other people are saying. I am not saying that you do not have listen to anyone, just listen what they say but take some alone time and think about it from every possible way. Then choose what your inner-voice says is right.

Investigate your source of lowered confidence

Sit and try to think about the factors that make you feel different about yourself from others.

  • What are the things you are not good at?
  • What are your fears?
  • Is this fear of
    • public speaking?
    • bad appraisal?
    • people neglecting you?
    • lack of information?
  • Which factors do you hate about yourself?

Ask those questions and they would help you investigating the source of lowered confidence, this is the first step towards having being confident. So, get to know what is the basic source of lowered confidence.

Set goals

Set goals for your life, make a vision and then be passionate about it. Once Steve Jobs said “People with passion can change the world”.

The point is, if you are scattered in your life and do not know the purpose or have not set any goals yet, then you can never measure yourself against anything. If you do not have a destination, then you would be like wandering around, it is just useless.

Set your goals and you would feel more confident.

Be positive

If you keep your thoughts positive and avoid from negative thinkings. You can increase your self confidence.

Start focusing on the positive things around you and in yourself. Focusing on negative things is such a waste of time and decreases your enthusiasm towards things and life. Nothing is perfect and nothing lasts forever. So embrace positivity and ignore negativity.

Seek mentors

Try to find some good people in your life. Look, there are bunch of nice people out there who want to help others for no reason. You just gotta have your shot, and find the person that can teach you some life-long lessons. If you ask why would anyone want to help you; read next point.

Help others

Always be helpful, do not say no to people who need your help. It gives you peace and a feel of fulfillment. When you help others for no reason at all, you’d feel happy. And if you do something bad, you are never gonna feel good about it in any way. It is human nature, and this is how we are made.

Surround yourself in Like-Minded people

Being around good people makes you a good person no matter how bad you are, it works slowly, but will change you. People have ultimate effect on each other. As the famous quote is;

“If you are living with four broke people, you would be the fifth”.

So, surround yourself in like-minded people, and you would feel more confident, it will also increase your self-esteem.

Daily exercise

Exercise is must for human body, running, gym, yoga, anything. Make a habit of exercising daily. Not on occasions, daily. Consistency is everything.
